Machinal Spring 2009

Sophie Treadwell wrote and first produced Machinal in 1928 after observing the court case and the subsequent execution of Ruth Snyder.  Machinal is based loosely on this case.  The play is about a women who does not want to follow the standards of society; to be married, to have children, to be a good "housewife."  It features a court that does not understand the motives behind her actions.
