At Dickinson, the Red Devil Sports Network (RDSN) is more than just a way to watch —it’s a hands-on training ground for students looking to break into sports media.

“RDSN provides such a valuable service to our department, and their commitment to their work is unmatched,” says Celine Cunningham, Dickinson’s director of athletics. “For students looking to work in the industry, it offers a truly dynamic, real-world experience to develop skills in every important facet of that world—commentary, production and storytelling.”

Run by a dedicated team of student broadcasters, producers and videographers since 2013, RDSN brings Dickinson’s athletic events to life, serving as the main network for Dickinson sports. The team’s work makes it easy for Dickinson teams to get game film and pictures, and it helps fans keep up with the action.

“We hope to give students a greater appreciation of ... our talented student-athletes,” says Harry Weiss '25 (Spanish & Portuguese studies, history), RDSN’s president. “For the athletes, we provide a way for them to give insight into their life—the positives and the negatives that come with being student-athletes. No athlete has the same story, and each student-athlete deserves to have their voice and story heard.”

Beyond its role in capturing on-field action, RDSN serves a larger purpose: connecting student-athletes with their peers and families by allowing parents of Dickinson students, family of opposing teams, and fans to watch and listen to the broadcasts—through a variety of digital content featuring each of Dickinson’s 25 varsity programs.

“RDSN plays a crucial role in engaging families, alumni and future Red Devils, ensuring they can stay connected to the action wherever they are,” says Cunningham. “The entire athletics department is so grateful that the RDSN team is part of our Red Devils family, and we’re always looking ahead to what they might do next.”

For students considering getting involved, RDSN offers more than just a crash course in sports media—it builds skills that extend beyond the press box.

“Not only does it provide valuable sports media experience, but it genuinely improves important abilities and traits,” says, Ben Gurwitch ’25 (American studies), RDSN’s vice president and sports editor for the Dickinsonian. “Public speaking and speaking confidently, both in front of and behind a camera, is a pivotal skill. RDSN allows students to find their voice and comfort speaking out.”

With a tight-knit group of students working together, RDSN also fosters lasting connections among sports lovers and remains a key part of the experience—both for the athletes on the field and the students behind the mic.

“The club provides a bond beyond just fellow students and athletes,” Weiss adds. “It’s a platform to connect with coaches, teams and Dickinson athletics employees. Each of these avenues provides our students with amazing opportunities to succeed both in college and after graduation.”
